In May 2021, NSW released a Code of Practice on Managing Psychosocial Hazards at Work.
In 2022, WA has followed suit and released three Code of Practices:-
Code of Practice on Workplace Behaviour
Code of Practice on Psychosocial Hazards in the Workplace
Code of Practice on Violence and Aggression at Work
Visit the Government WA website for details on http://ow.ly/RUtY50HV5Ok
These Codes of Practice recognise the need for greater employee care and wellbeing and support last years International standard, ISO45003 (as an extension to ISO45001) - Managing Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.
They set a standard which organisations need to meet in order to comply with the basic practices of staff welfare.
However, Psychosocial Safety is about more than compliance. It is about more than employee safety.
The benefits reach further than the workforce. They benefit the business and the performance of the organisation.
Getting Psychosocial safety right in your workplace will make a significant positive difference to your company and it’s stakeholders at all levels.
- Attrition rates will reduce
- Absenteeism will reduce
- Presenteeism will reduce
All of these cost the business considerable costs in terms of lost production and recruitment.
- Innovation will increase
- Staff will treat each other, the Contractors and Suppliers, the Clients and Customers better
- The workforce become engaged in improving the business because they feel that they belong and have a purpose.
- Improvements to ways things are done will be implemented.
- Customers will see the difference.
The Codes of Practice that have been introduced on Psychosocial Safety impact the business well beyond compliance. They provide a baseline to doing business better.
